The Weizmann Institute of Science is a world-renowned multidisciplinary research center in Rechovoth, 17 miles southeast of Tel Aviv. Its state-of-the-art visitors center opened in 2013, provides an excellent gateway to the institute’s activities and legacy.

History of The Weizmann Institute

Chaim Weizmann was a renowned scientist and leader in the Zionist movement. In 1934 with a team he established a research center in Rechovoth, which he led until 1949. Appointed as Israel’s first president, he left the research center, yet the institution was named after him in the same year.

Today, the institute is a multidisciplinary research center for about 3,800 researchers, students, and staff. It is renowned for its innovative achievements at the forefront of science and technology. As of 2020, 6 Nobel Prize winners and 3 Turing Award winners are associated with the Institute.

The Levinson Visitors Center

Opened in 2013, the Levinson Visitors Center deploys cutting-edge interactive technology to match the innovative nature of the institute. The exhibits leverage the visitor’s natural curiosity in various scientific fields and conclude with a special multi-sensory presentation. The Weizmann Institute also invites youngsters to participate in multiple scientific experiments in its garden. Spanning over 2 acres, the Clore Garden of Science offers 90 interactive exhibits that demonstrate various scientific principles in a fun and playful way.

Touring the Weizmann Institute

The Visitors Center is open Sunday to Thursday, 9:00-16:00. The Science Park is open throughout the week. Visiting Chaim Weizman’s House near the campus is also possible. Any visit must be coordinated through the Institute’s public relations.
