Plant your Own Tree in Israel

Planting a Tree in Israel

Planting a tree is a deeply meaningful experience for tourists and families visiting Israel.

Historically, the land suffered systematic deforestation during the Ottoman period, leaving much of it barren. However, the Zionist movement, with its goal of revitalizing the Land of Israel, initiated widespread reforestation efforts. The Jewish National Fund (JNF) operates numerous locations across Israel, inviting individuals to personally contribute to this ongoing Zionist ideal.

Since 1901, over 250 million trees have been planted across Israel, making it one of only two countries where the number of trees has increased. Notable among these efforts is the planting of a forest in the Judean Hills during the 1950s to commemorate the Holocaust. Additionally, Israel boasts several remarkable Holocaust memorials, including the Scroll of Fire Memorial and the Anne Frank Monument. Through the JNF's initiatives, over 250,000 acres of land have been developed, and more than 2,000 parks established.

Among these green spaces, the Yattir forest in the southern Judean hills stands out, covering an impressive 7,400 acres around Khirbet Yattir. This expansive forest is a testament to Israel's commitment to environmental conservation and serves as a poignant symbol of hope and renewal. Visitors to Israel can participate in tree-planting activities, contributing to the nation's ongoing efforts to make the Land of Israel flourish once again.

How to Participate

The JNF has two centers for planting trees.

One is near the Shephelah, and the other in the lower Galilee. The activity takes 1-2 hours, and the participants receive a certificate for supporting this beautiful ongoing project.
